Painting areas that people walk or drive on is a great way to add colour to your space, and to protect your concrete or paving areas from premature wear and tear.

Before using any of our products, follow this guide for easy preparation.

Step 1:

Use Berger Jet Dry Active Clean to clean the surface of oil, grease and contaminants left from when your concrete was curing.

For new concrete, ensure you have waited 12 weeks before painting with an oil based paint, or 4 weeks with a water based paint.

Use a stiff bristle broom to work Berger Jet Dry Active Clean into the surface. Allow it to sit on the surface for 15 minutes before washing clean with water.

Where surfaces have been previously painted, sand the surface using a pole sander, and wash clean. Your surface is now ready to paint with Berger Jet Dry products.

If a clear coat was the previous coating, contact Berger Jet Dry Customer Service on 0800 800 424 to discuss preparation.

Step 2:

For bare concrete and paving, it is important to etch the surface prior to painting. Etching roughens the surface to give paint a key to adhere to. Use Berger Jet Dry Active Etch to etch your surface. Dilute following the directions on can, being careful to always add the Berger Jet Dry Active Etch powder to the water, and not the other way around.

Use a stiff bristle broom to work Berger Jet Dry Active Etch into the surface. The solution should bubble and fizz. This is the reaction that happens to give the roughened surface. Allow to sit on the surface for 15 minutes, and wash clean. Ensure there is no Berger Jet Dry Active Etch left on the surface before painting as this can effect adhesion.

Allow to dry. Check the surface is porous enough by doing a simple water bead test. If water beads dropped onto the surface absorb into the surface rather than beading on top, the surface is ready to paint. If not, complete the etching step again.
